School Leaders: Are you getting the best value from your TAs?
Maximising the Impact of Teaching Assistants (MITA) supports your school through a process of rethinking and reforming how you deploy and prepare TAs, to ensure they make a meaningful contribution to teaching and learning in your school.
- A leading evidence-based approach to a vital area of school improvement, based on the Institute of Education’s ground-breaking research
- Guidance, classroom-tested strategies and case studies on how to use TAs effectively
- Support with getting value from your Pupil Premium and implementing the SEND Code of Practice
- Opportunities to collaborate and share practice with other schools and engage with leading research on TAs and SEN
The programme is for up to three attendees per school: HT or Senior Leader, SENDCo and a teacher. It is delivered over three half-day sessions.
The programme will be delivered by Rob Webster, MITA Lead & Researcher, UCL Institute of Education.
MITA Direct guides school leaders through a process of strategic review and change. Over 400 schools have accessed our leadership course, which helps improve the deployment and impact of teaching assistants.
MITA Direct is commissioned by a host organisation and is delivered to schools locally by our experienced team. Host organisations include teaching schools, local authorities, multi-academy trusts, federations and clusters.
Tuesday 25th September 2018 9.00am-12.30pm – Session 1: setting out the evidence on TA deployment and impact; introducing the key principles of the MITA approach; how to conduct a self-evaluation; setting a vision for change.
Tuesday 6th November 2018 9.00am-12.30pm – Session 2: building on the self-evaluation; exploring the MITA principles in depth; rethinking how TAs are deployed and interact with pupils; practical strategies and ideas; action planning.
Wednesday 10th April 2019 9.00am-12.30pm – Session 3: reviewing and sharing success; planning next steps.
Each school receives a comprehensive pack of high-quality resources and tools to support the processes of review and implementation.

The cost of the programme is subject to bookings – estimated £600 per school based on 10 schools
Please note that in the event of a cancellation the following terms will be applied:
Cancellations within two weeks of the first event: 50% charge; cancellations within 48 hrs of the event/no show: 100% charge. If delegates do not attend all three sessions, your school will still be charged the full amount.
