Aims of the course

This one-day course will offer Head Teachers advice, support and strategies for effective management of school budgets.

Course Structure

Morning – Financial Considerations for Maintained Schools
A half-day session in which we will explore the complexities of school budgets. We will explain how to set and effectively monitor a realistic annual budget and medium term financial plan, linking to the agreed priorities in your School Development Plan. The annual budget cycle, including regular reporting to senior leaders and governing bodies is key to the financial success of your school and we will discuss in detail how sound financial processes underpin successful outcomes for your pupils.

Afternoon – Financial Considerations for Academies and Multi Academy Trusts
A half day session in which we will explore the complexities of academy trust budgets. We will explain how to set and effectively monitor a realistic annual budget and medium term financial plan, linking to the agreed priorities in your School and Trust Development Plans. The annual budget cycle, including regular reporting to senior leaders and directors/trustees is key to the financial success of your trust and we will discuss in detail how sound financial processes underpin successful outcomes for your pupils.

We will explore the additional financial responsibilities which academy status brings including how to establish robust monthly and annual accounting processes, and how to ensure effective systems of financial control allow the board of directors/trustees to fulfil their duties in terms of accountability and integrity.

Course delivery

This course will be led by Avec Partnership. Avec provides outstanding, specialist, and professional support services to schools and academies in the North East. They support schools and academies with a range of professional support services including Academy Conversion, Human Resources, Finance, Health & Safety, Governance, Leadership Support, Procurement and Project Management.
